Team Training – Week 1: Taking Responsibility and Gaining Clarity
Our teams started Week 1 of our Port Royal University Team Training Program! While it’s clear that our mission is “To Create an Excellent Performance so that Guests Create Memories to Last a Lifetime”, we know that helping our team be the best personally is an essential first step at creating a culture of excellence and great customer service.
Throughout Week 1, we took the journey into “Personal Excellence” which is centered around Jack Canfield’s book, The Success Principles. This week, our teams are focusing on Principles 1 and 3 in the book, which encourages our team to “Take 100% Responsibility for Your Life” and “Decide What You Want”.
Our teams are learning that they must take personal responsibility for what happens to them in their life; that for every event in their lives, they have a response to make that helps dictate the outcome. This is the E + R = O equation; an event and your response equals the outcome. These responses are their choice and they are responsible for them entirely.
During our second session of training, our teams dig deep into what they really want – both in life and work.
Actor and Author Ben Stein said it best as he described the meaning of this exercise – “The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.”
We asked each of our teams to write down 30 things they want to do, 30 things they want to have, and 30 things they’d like to do before they die.
Through this exercise, we not only learned a lot about our team members, but they also learned a lot about themselves.
