PORT ARANSAS, TX – Mustang Island’s largest resort hotel announced plans today to re-open its doors following the widespread devastation brought on by Hurricane Harvey. The Port Royal Ocean Resort and Conference Center, a flagship destination between Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, will begin hosting limited guests on April 1, with the official grand re-opening scheduled for early June 2018.

“The fact that we are able to confidently and publicly announce our plans to re-open so quickly after we incurred significant damage from Hurricane Harvey is a true testament to our Board’s planning; the hard work and tireless dedication of our team; and the incredible support from our partners,” said Kendra Kinnison, General Manager of Port Royal Ocean Resort.

As a result of the historic storm, the famous seaside resort sustained extensive damage to roofs, elevators, HVAC systems, the well-known pool area, and many exterior walls. But in regards to minimizing long-term detrimental impacts, Kinnison credits Port Royal’s partners, Signature Group and AmTech, for immediately stepping in to provide the equipment and manpower that helped stabilize the situation, as well as the company’s preparedness and nimble execution of its Emergency Action Plan.

“Having a solid plan in place to respond to emergency situations, like a hurricane or tropical storm, allowed us to quickly and appropriately launch into triage mode and best allocate our resources in a thoughtful manner,” Kinnison said. “Because of this foresight, Port Royal was able to protect against the worst-case scenario.”

Yet no plan is complete without the right people working to fulfill the well-laid out steps and procedures. To that end, Port Royal’s teams have gone above and beyond to dedicate their time and effort toward restoring not just the resort itself, but also toward rebuilding the community as a whole.

Since the storm, the Port Royal team has logged more than 2,000 hours of community service, clearing debris and assisting with clean up efforts in Port Aransas.

“I’m incredibly proud to see our team come together, roll up their sleeves, and get to work helping our neighbors regain some sense of normalcy – that’s what being a Texan is all about,” said Patricia Bell, Director of Human Resources for Port Royal. “We’re honored to be able to play an important role in the restoration of our community. We serve with Port Royal pride.”

Through Port Royal University, the resort will dedicate the next six months to providing comprehensive training to team members in order to deliver an unparalleled level of service upon re-opening.

“The idea is to re-open next year even better than before, to recommit ourselves to our mission of providing an excellent performance so that guests create memories to last a lifetime,” says Stephan Noack, Assistant General Manager.

“This is also a great opportunity to redesign our dining and event spaces,” adds Omar Gonzalez, Director of Resort Operations. “Our guests have been sharing their ideas with us for years. This is our chance to make that happen.”
